ARDALANISH TWEED WOVEN ON THE ISLE OF MULL
We make each waistcoat to order on the beautiful Scottish Island of Mull. So, we are delighted to use and promote tweeds from the local mill we discovered at Ardalanish, who describe ‘weaving as a fascinating mix of mechanics, maths, hard work, inspiration, creativity, trial and error and a little dose of magic’. Fleece from their own characterful flock of native Hebridean Black sheep (who roam freely around the mill) are meticulously blended with fleece from other farms. We are told toffee tones are created with Manx Loaghtan Wool from the Isle of Man and creamy shades are synonymous with fleece the Shetland Isle. Ardalanish mill welcomes visitors and stock a collection of our waistcoats in their unforgettable shop, you can find out more this wonderful place here.
NATURAL PLANT DYED 100% PURE NEW WOOL
Ardalanish tweeds truly translate the colours of the Island of Mull, achieved naturally using plant dyes, using only what they can cultivate on their on-site dye garden. Ancient, time consuming processes are used to create the vibrant blues in the Smokey Woad Tattersall. They use leaves from woad plants to create vivid blues, madder root is used for scarlet, carmine red, pinks and onions for yellow hues. Heritage, traditions, ethical and sustainable principles are woven into this unique waistcoat which we have lovingly stitched to last you a lifetime.
